What Is Family KITAP?

The Family KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) grants a 5-year renewable residency to foreign spouses and children under 18 of:

  • Indonesian citizens (spouses E31A / children of mixed marriages)
  • Foreigners holding Working KITAP, Investor KITAP, or Retirement KITAP

This permit includes a Multiple Exit-Re-entry Permit (MERP) valid for 2 years. Renewal is possible indefinitely. 

Eligibility & Core Benefits

  • MERP allows unlimited entry and exit for 2 years
  • Family members can enjoy long-term stability in Indonesia

From Applicant (Spouse or Child):

  • Passport (valid ≥36 months)
  • Current KITAS/KITAP card with at least 3 months validity
  • Recent passport photo (white background)
  • Marriage certificate or Indonesian birth certificate
  • CV (if relevant)
  • Bank statement (min USD 1,500)
  • SKTT (temporary residence registration in Indonesia)

From Indonesian Sponsor or KITAP Holder:

  • Indonesian spouse’s KTP (ID card) & Kartu Keluarga (family card)
  • Sponsor letter stating relationship (in case of foreign KITAP holder)
  • Valid KITAP copy of primary sponsor

1. Who is eligible for a Family KITAP?

Foreign spouses of Indonesian citizens, children from mixed marriages, and dependents of Working/Investor/Retirement KITAP holders can apply. Must hold a valid KITAS/KITAP first.

2. What can I do with a Family KITAP?

You can live in Indonesia for 5 years, travel in and out with the MERP, open bank accounts, register for a driver’s license, and enroll in schools. Employment requires a separate work permit. 

3. Can dependents work in Indonesia under KITAP?

Generally, no. Except adult spouses of Indonesians might obtain work permissions if needed, but additional permits may be required.

4. Can we extend or renew KITAP?

Yes—Family KITAP can be renewed indefinitely in 5-year increments. MERP renewal occurs every two years. 

5. What if my sponsor’s status changes?

If the sponsor loses their KITAP or relocation happens, the Family KITAP may be revoked, and dependents will need to apply for alternate status. 

6. Is MERP included?

Yes, a two-year Multiple Exit-Re-entry Permit (MERP) is provided and valid within the KITAP period.
